Delio CEO Gets 15 Years as South Korean Court Unravels $50 Million Crypto Fraud

South Korean courts have sentenced the head of crypto yield firm Delio to 15 years in prison in a major fraud case tied to the collapse of the platform and the freezing of customer withdrawals. The ruling marks one of the harshest penalties handed down in the country’s crypto sector and underscores how seriously courts are treating investor losses in digital-asset cases.

The Seoul Southern District Court found that Jeong Sang-ho, Delio’s CEO, was responsible for fraud involving roughly 70 billion won, or about $49 million, even though prosecutors had originally alleged much larger losses across thousands of victims. Local reporting said the court only recognized part of the broader indictment, but still ordered immediate detention because of flight risk.

Delio had been accused of misleading customers and operating a business that could not support the high-yield products it sold before halting withdrawals in 2023. Prosecutors had sought a 20-year sentence, arguing that the case involved deliberate deception and affected around 2,800 investors.

The sentence adds another high-profile example of South Korea’s increasingly tough stance on crypto-related misconduct. It also sends a clear signal to exchange operators, yield platforms, and other digital-asset firms that courts may impose long prison terms when customer funds are at stake.
